Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is Cited by State Investigators – Review by Local Nursing Home Abuse Lawyer James Keim
Following the receipt of a complaint against Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, an August 1, 2016 complaint investigation was conducted on an unannounced basis at the nursing home by the State of Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration. This 120 bed nursing home is located at 5157 Park Club Drive, Sarasota, Florida 34235.
Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had Complaints about Poor Air Conditioning
Residents reportedly had complaints about high temperatures in the East dining room of Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center that were said to to cause residents, their family members and nursing home staff to sweat. A nurse told investigators that the air conditioning unit in the East wing had not been working properly for several months. “The facility placed very large fans in the dining room but all they did was move the hot air around the room,” according to staff. Staff members further complained that administration failed to indicate when the air conditioning would be fixed.
The Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration cited Tarpon Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for violations under the federal Nursing Home Reform Act, including F Tag 165 (Right to Voice Grievances Without Reprisal), F Tag 257 (Comfortable & Safe Temperature Levels), in addition to other violations found under state law. These deficiencies follow those cited in 2015; a year in which this nursing home was fined a total of $13,500.00 for quality of care related deficiencies.
