Discovery Commons South Biscayne Lawsuit

Discovery Commons South Biscayne has a pending lawsuit on file with the Sarasota County Clerk of Court. The lawsuit was filed on August 9, 2023 and remains pending at this time against the ALF’s license holder and alleged management company. The complaint alleges, among other things, that the facility acted negligently to cause a resident to suffer “skin breakdown, falls, wandering, infection, malnutrition, and dehydration.” The plaintiff has also alleged that this negligence resulted in the wrongful death of the resident. The ALF is listed as a for-profit 147-bed assisted living facility located at 6235 Hoffman Street, North Port, Florida 34287.

Discovery Commons South Biscayne complaints

The State of Florida, Agency for Health Care Administration imposed a $4,000.00 fine on the limited liability company that is identified as the licensee / owner of Discovery Commons South Biscayne. The fine was imposed as an administrative remedy against the facility in resolution of a formal administrative complaint. This complaint was initiated following an unannounced inspection that occurred at the ALF. At the time of the inspection, Florida investigators determined that the assisted living facility had failed to comply with numerous provisions under Florida law. The alleged areas of non-compliance included: resident care, admissions, staffing standards, training, and admission health assessments among other.
