Cape Coral nursing home abuse alerts have been issued for three area facilities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS recently began using a red encircled hand on its website to alert consumers when a nursing home has been cited for potential issues related to abuse. All nursing homes in Florida are inspected by officials with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. That Florida Agency transmits information, data and records it collects on nursing homes in this state to the federal government. That information is then used by CMS to formulate a rating for the nursing home. The abuse alert icons are a relatively new feature CMS has introduced to assist consumers when choosing a facility.
CMS states that their “website includes information to alert you about abuse or neglect in nursing homes. When you browse facilities, you’ll see this icon by facilities that have been recently cited for resident harm or potential harm for abuse or neglect. Abuse is defined as the willful infliction of injury, unreasonable confinement, intimidation, or punishment with resulting physical harm, pain or mental anguish. It includes verbal abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and mental abuse.”
Local Nursing Home Abuse Alerts Target Three Area Facilities
Three area nursing homes in Cape Coral have received the abuse alert on CMS’ website: Rehab and Healthcare Center of Cape Coral, Coral Trace Health Care, and Gulf Coast Village. Coral Trace Health Care received a “much below average” rating from CMS while Rehab and Healthcare Center of Cape Coral and Gulf Coast Village each received a “below average” rating from CMS. The complete ratings and detailed information for all three of these Cape Coral nursing homes may be viewed on CMS’ website here: http://tinyurl.com/4r8p2hsr
