Investigators with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration responded to a Capri Health and Rehab complaint in February, 2024. It appears from a review of public records on file with the Agency that this Venice nursing home had a change of ownership on September 19, 2023. The facility is located at 1450 East Venice Avenue, Venice, Florida 34292.
While Florida investigators were not able to substantiate the specific complaint that was reported to the Agency, they did find that Capri Health and Rehab was not in compliance with requirements set forth under federal law. This demonstrates that when investigators walk into a Florida nursing home to conduct an unannounced complaint investigation, they are not confined to looking merely at the substance of the complaint. Any other violations that they notice or observe during an inspection can also lead to the citation of deficiencies.
Capri Health and Rehab Inspection Results in February, 2024 Deficiencies
Additionally, investigators with the Agency can look to see if there are additional issues of noncompliance that impact other residents in the nursing home — even if they are totally unrelated to the individual who was the subject of the original complaint.
In this instance, inspectors with the Agency pulled resident charts, reviewed them and interviewed staff. What they discovered led to the citation of deficiencies. Two violations were witnessed at the time of the investigation. Florida officials concluded that “the facility failed to ensure clinical records contained complete and accurate documentation of care provided for 2 (Residents #1 and #3) of 3 residents reviewed for accuracy of clinical records.” Think about that. In this sample, two-thirds or roughly 66%, of the resident charts investigators pulled and looked at in this nursing home contained incomplete or inaccurate information. Florida law also sets forth a similar requirement for nursing homes to maintain complete and accurate records for every resident. The State of Florida investigators found that this requirement was also not met by Capri Health and Rehabilitation Center.
