Aspire at Venice complaints brought inspectors with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration into the nursing home to conduct investigations on three separate occasions during 2024. Aspire at Venice is a for-profit 120-bed nursing home located at 1026 Albee Farm Road, Venice, Florida 34285.
Complaint investigations conducted in both June and November, 2024 at this Venice nursing home resulted in Florida officials issuing citations of deficiencies.
Violations found related to sufficient nursing staff, resident neglect and competence of nursing home staff
During the June, 2024 investigation, Florida officials focused on complaints related to how dependent residents were being transferred with mechanical lifts from one position to another. The proper training and education and use of the appropriate mechanical lift is crucial to ensure resident safety. Falls related to improper transfers are a significant source of serious injury and death to residents in nursing homes throughout the United States each year. Investigators interviewed staff members, residents and reviewed clinical records. They concluded that workers at Aspire at Venice were not in compliance with state and federal law. The violations found during this visit included the failure to ensure each resident’s right to receive adequate and appropriate healthcare, the failure to have sufficient nursing staff with the appropriate competencies and skills, and the failure to ensure that residents remain free from abuse and neglect.
Complaints at Aspire at Venice brought Florida officials back to the nursing home just this past month, in November, 2024. Complaints were also substantiated during this visit. Elopement occurs when a resident wanders away and leaves a nursing home without the staff knowing about it. Upon their return, inspectors concluded “based on observation, record review, resident and staff interviews, the facility failed to ensure adequate supervision to prevent the elopement” of a resident who left the building without knowledge of the staff. This happened despite the fact that the nursing home staff knew that this resident was at risk for elopement.
As a result, Aspire at Venice was cited with a total of four (4) deficiencies during this investigation for violations of state and federal law relating to ensuring each resident’s right to adequate and appropriate healthcare, the failure to maintain sufficient nursing staff with the appropriate competencies and skills, the failure to meet State of Florida minimum staffing requirements and the failure to ensure that residents receive adequate supervision. The complete history of Aspire at Venice complaints, deficiencies and investigations may be reviewed on the Agency’s website located here: https://tinyurl.com/wckyhwnh A review of the Sarasota County Clerk of Court website does not reveal any Aspire at Venice lawsuits pending at this time.
