Amira Choice Sarasota complaints brought investigators with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to the assisted living facility on two different occasions so far during 2025. Amira Choice Sarasota is a for-profit 140-bed ALF located at 4100 University Parkway, Sarasota, Florida 34243.
Anyone may phone in a complaint concerning a Florida assisted living facility or nursing home by calling the Agency at (888) 419-3456. Once a complaint is made, Florida officials will make an unannounced visit to the facility. At that time, they have the authority to pull records, speak with residents and their family members and interview staff. If a violation is observed while inspectors are onsite, they can cite the facility with a deficiency even though the violation was not part of the original complaint. As a Sarasota elder abuse lawyer, I frequently advise family members of residents to make a complaint. Doing so can help to correct issues and areas of non-compliance in these facilities, potentially making it safer for others who might otherwise be in harm’s way.
Amira Choice Sarasota Complaints Lead to Citation of Six (6) Violations in 2025

During the first inspection that took place following complaints received in 2025, Florida officials found that Amira Choice Sarasota failed to comply with Florida law by violating resident care standards relating to supervision and adherence to resident rights and facility procedures. These violations resulted in the State of Florida citing the ALF with two Class III deficiencies.
A little more than a month later, Florida investigators returned to Amira Choice Sarasota following receipt of additional complaints. At that time, Florida officials observed violations and cited the assisted living facility with four additional Class III deficiencies. These deficiencies involved non-compliance with standards pertaining to reporting requirements for adverse incidents at the facility, medication records and the labeling and storage of medications, and resident care elopement standards. Public records reveal the existence of an Amira Choice Sarasota lawsuit that alleged that the facility, along with other defendants, negligently maintained an elevator inside the building. The elevator allegedly became stuck, trapping an elderly resident inside for two and a half hours. According to the lawsuit, the call button inside the elevator was also inoperable at the time, and the staff at the ALF had known for some time that the elevator was not functioning properly.
