Benderson Family Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 45-bed nursing home located at 1959 North Honore Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34235. During the past five years, this nursing home has been inspected by workers with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and has received (26) twenty-six deficiencies cited against the facility.
Two complaints brought Florida officials to this Sarasota nursing home during January, 2025. Five months later, inspectors with the Agency returned to the nursing home to conduct a routine standard inspection. At that time, the facility was found to be in non-compliance with both state and federal law.
Quality of Care, Failure to Follow Physician Orders and Improper Record Keeping in the Spotlight
During the most recent inspection of Benderson Family Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Florida officials cited this Sarasota nursing home with multiple violations, including a violation for falsely documenting that a physician’s order had been carried out for a resident when, in fact, it had not. When inspectors met with the resident of the facility, it was apparent to them that the required treatment had not been applied even though the resident’s chart falsely indicated that it had. In addition to receiving deficienicies related to the failure to follow physician orders and failing to properly document medical records, the nursing home was also cited for failing to meet quality of care standards.
Benderson Family Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Complaint Substantiated by Florida Officials
Agency officials interviewed staff, spoke with residents, reviewed medical records and made observations during their investigation at Benderson Family Skilled Nursing.
As noted by inspectors, under federal law, a nursing home “must be adequately equipped to allow residents to call for staff assistance through a communication system which relays the call directly to a staff member or to a centralized staff work area” so that residents’ needs may be met.
Florida officials substantiated one of two complaints and found that the requirement under federal law for the resident call system was not met, noting that “it was determined that the facility failed to ensure the residents’ right to call light access” was maintained for each and every resident within the facility.
