Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center Workers Strike
Workers at Venice nursing home Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center and 18 other Florida nursing homes owned and operated by Consulate Health Care are set to strike for better pay tomorrow, April 14, 2016, for a 24 hour period. If you have family members who reside at this nursing home or another Consulate Health Care owned nursing home, tomorrow would be a good day to visit, have friends and neighbors visit and be present and vigilant throughout this time. Consulate Health Care owns and operates a total of 80 nursing homes in Florida.
I have one or more pending cases against Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center. If you are a former employee of Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center who has knowledge about issues, concerns or problems at this facility and Consulate Health Care, the company that owns and operates it, I would urge you to contact me at (941) 485-7600.
Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center is part of a chain of nursing homes operated by Consulate Health Care. According to its website, this organization operates more than 200 nursing homes in 21 states. It is currently the sixth largest nursing home operation in the United States. During 2015, Consulate Health Care’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Conte, was replaced by Bill Mathies a former executive with both Sun Healthcare Group and Beverly Enterprises; two large nursing home chains with troubled histories. Sun Healthcare Group previously filed for bankruptcy while Beverly Enterprises was prosecuted by the United States Department of Justice for submitting false claims for reimbursement under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Consulate Health Care has recently seen a number of its facilities placed on the State of Florida’s Nursing Home Watch List. According to ACHA’s website: “The Watch List identifies nursing homes that are operating under bankruptcy protection or met the criteria for a conditional status during the past 30 months. A conditional status indicates that a facility did not meet, or correct upon follow-up, minimum standards at the time of an inspection. Immediate action is taken if a facility poses a threat to resident health or safety.”
