During this most recent investigation, Florida officials arrived at the facility and interviewed staff, made observations and reviewed records. What Agency inspectors uncovered was a shocking incident of sexual abuse committed against a mentally incapacitated female resident.

The administrator told inspectors that the maintenance man said: “It was the devil that got into him.” The maintenance director was arrested and booked into jail. The administrator noted that he is a married man. Unfortunately, the sexual abuse of residents is much more common in Florida assisted living facilities and nursing homes than most people realize or understand. In this instance, the assisted living facility was cited in violation of Florida law for failures relating to resident care – supervision, resident care – rights and facility procedures, and staffing standards for administrators.
