Pines of Sarasota lawsuits allege that this nursing home, located at 1501 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota, Florida, acted negligently and in violation of the Florida resident rights. The plaintiff in a thirty page complaint contends that the Pines of Sarasota’s negligent acts and omissions caused an elderly woman to fall multiple times and suffer “head trauma, including a cranial laceration requiring staples, subdural hematoma, and a subarachnoid bleed[.]” The case remains open at this time.
In a prior lawsuit filed against Pines of Sarasota, the nursing home was alleged to have harmed a female resident through a medication overdose. This lawsuit alleging negligence and resident rights violations was recently settled with the nursing home’s licensee. A notice of settlement was filed with the Sarasota County Clerk of Courts on October 8, 2024.
Pines of Sarasota Cited with Deficiencies by Florida Investigators in 2024
A Pines of Sarasota complaint was investigated on October 17, 2024 during an unannounced inspection. State inspectors with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration were unable, however, to substantiate the facts set forth in that most recent complaint. Therefore, no violations or deficiencies were issued at that time. The same was true for a complaint reported against the facility and investigated in January, 2024. Complaints were also received by state officials, however, leading up to an inspection that occurred in May of 2024.
During unannounced standard, complaint and fire, life and safety inspections occurring in early May, investigators did confirm complaints and observed violations where Pines of Sarasota failed to meet minimum requirements for nursing homes set forth under state and federal law. A total of twelve citations of deficiencies were cited against the Sarasota nursing home at that time. Violations under the federal Nursing Home Reform Act were cited in relation to the failure to properly label and store drugs and biologicals and for failures related to abuse, neglect and exploitation training. The complete history of inspections at Pines of Sarasota may be viewed on the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration’s website located here: https://tinyurl.com/3etftppu
