Villa at Venice is a 90-bed assisted living facility located at 200 Nassau Street North, Venice, Florida 34285. A change of ownership occured on October 9, 2024. As of that date, the new license holder for the facility is Venice AL Opco LLC. The new ownership has taken over and rebranded this ALF which was formerly known as The Pavilion of Downtown Venice; a troubled ALF that faced multiple lawsuits and complaints.
Following the change of ownership of a Florida assisted living facility, the State of Florida conducts an unannounced inspection. It was during this inspection that Florida investigators with the Agency for Health Care Administration discovered and documented nine deficiencies. To date, only two other ALFs in Sarasota County have received nine or more total deficiencies during 2025.
Villa at Venice Cited with Nine (9) Deficiencies in 2025

Villa at Venice received citations of deficiencies for, among other things, failing to comply with requirements relating to 1) maintaining a safe living environment, 2) food service dietary standards, 3) staff training, 4) medication assistance, 5) resident care elopement standards, and 6) resident rights and facility procedures.
Perhaps most shocking to families is the revelation that the majority of workers employed in Florida assisted living facilities are unlicensed personnel. This means that they are neither nurses nor certified nurse assistants. These unlicensed employees include those who are charged with the important responsibility of assisting residents with the self-administration of medications. This duty is usually performed by an unlicensed employee referred to as a “Med Tech” or medication technition. All a person has to do to become known as a med tech in Florida is to complete a 6-hour training course provided by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
During their inspection, Florida officials determined that Villa at Venice was in violation of Florida law relating to the assistance with the self-administration of resident medications. Inspectors concluded that “[b]ased on observation, record review, and interview, the facility failed to ensure that unlicensed staff providing assistance with self-administration of medications, do so appropriately and follow facility policy” for all three of three sampled residents. A Class III deficiency was cited.
Florida investigators also cited the ALF owner for failing to comply with requirements pertaining to the duty to maintain a safe, clean and homelike environment for residents. According to the inspection team, “the flooring in the resident hallway on the 1st floor was separated, torn and buckled. There were soft spots and an uneven walking surface in the hallway.” According to the ALF’s maintenance director, the damage was due to a water leak, and he admitted that the leak had been repaired but the flooring had not. Villa at Venice received a Class III deficiency for this violation. The complete 35-page inspection report for Villa at Venice may be reviewed here: https://tinyurl.com/Villa-at-Venice
