
American House Sarasota complaints brought Florida officials into this assisted living facility to conduct investigations during 2025 and 2024. American House Sarasota is a for-profit 185-bed ALF located at 4540 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida 34233. As discussed more fully below, American House Sarasota was also the subject of a lawsuit in 2024.
Of the six complaints that were investigated last year, inspectors with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration were able to substantiate four of those complaints. Some of the complaints were related to the elopement of residents from the facility. An elopement occurs whenever a resident is able to leave an ALF without the awareness or knowledge of staff. State investigators spoke with staff and reviewed records. They determined that a total of four residents had eloped from this Sarasota assisted living facility. A complaint received by the Agency and investigated during 2025 did not result in a citation.
Update: American House Sarasota Cited with Deficiencies in 2025 and 2024; Fine Imposed During 2025 for Violations

Investigators with the Agency conducted an inspection during 2025 at American House Sarasota as part of its biennial relicensure. At that time, Florida officials determined that the ALF had failed to comply with Florida law relating to staffing standards. A Class III deficiency was issued at that time.
The prior year, as detailed below, American House Sarasota was found to be in non-compliance with Florida law in the operation of its assisted living facility. These violations stemmed from multiple complaints that were received by Florida officials and were deemed to rise to the level of constituting more serious Class II deficiencies. The State of Florida filed a type of lawsuit against American House Sarasota known as an administrative complaint for these violations. This resulted in the ALF’s operator receiving a a fine of $7,500.00 imposed during 2025.

At the conclusion of their investigation into these complaints, the State of Florida cited American House Sarasota with two Class II deficiencies related to resident care. Those deficiencies included the failure to meet requirements set forth under Florida law relating to supervision as well as requirements that pertain to elopement standards.

American House Sarasota Lawsuit Filed and Settled in 2024

An American House Sarasota lawsuit that alleged that this Sarasota assisted living facility and its staff failed to appropriately monitor a resident and negligently allowed her to suffer “falls and unexplained injuries, suffering elopements, , and suffering an attack from another resident.” The lawsuit was filed against the defendant on May 2, 2024.
Following some initial litigation, the defendant, AH Sarasota OpCo, LLC, doing business as American House Sarasota, and the plaintiff reached a settlement of the case. A notice of settlement was filed on behalf of the parties on October 8, 2024.
