During 2015, Manorcare Health Services was the subject of an annual survey investigation conducted by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration on February 13, 2015 that resulted in this nursing home being cited for deficient practices in failing to meet the requirements of the federal Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987. The Agency concluded its annual survey inspection and cited Manorcare Health Services for multiple deficiencies related to resident care which are detailed in a 45 page report. The violations concerned the nursing home’s deficient practices with regard to food and nutrition, storing drugs and medicine, following physician’s orders, and care planning. One lawsuit was also filed during 2015 against Manor Care of Venice FL, LLC, the licensee operator of Manorcare Health Services, alleging nursing home negligence with the Sarasota County Clerk of Court.

Manorcare Health Services in Venice, FL is part of a chain of nursing homes operated by a privately owned company in Toledo, OH under the name HCR ManorCare. The license holder of Manorcare Health Services is a foreign limited liability company called Manor Care of Venice FL, LLC based in Toledo, Ohio. HCR ManorCare is one of the top 10 largest nursing home chains in the United States. The chain is owned by Manor Care, Inc, which operates or oversees the operation of approximately 500 facilities throughout the country. In 2007, the company was acquired in a $4.9 billion buyout offer by the private equity firm, Carlyle Group.
