Pinebrook Center in Venice Cited for Deficiencies February, 2016

April 28, 2016 jameskeim

Pinebrook Center in Venice found in Violation of Federal Law

If and when it comes time to select a rehabilitation facility or nursing home in Venice, Florida, a family should conduct as much of an investigation as time permits.  Family members should visit the nursing home several times, at different times of day, and during different shifts during the week and on a weekend in order to gain an idea as to how competently the facility is run.  Does there appear to be enough help – both nurses and nurse assistants to meet the residents’ needs?  Are the residents’ needs being met in a timely manner — or do you hear people continually crying out for help?  As a nursing home abuse lawyer who handles cases in Venice, Englewood, Sarasota, Bradenton and surrounding communities.  Venice currently has six nursing homes located in or nearby the city.  Pinebrook Center is a for-profit nursing home located in Venice, Florida at 1240 Pinebrook Road, Venice, Florida 34285.

Between February 1 and February 4, 2016, Pinebrook Center was the subject of an annual recertification survey and investigation conducted by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration.  This investigation resulted in this nursing home being cited for deficient practices in failing to meet the requirements of the federal Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987.  These deficiencies were based upon the visual observations of AHCA investigators during their unannounced inspection at the Pinebrook Center nursing home.  The Agency concluded its annual survey inspection on February 4, 2016 and cited Pinebrook Center for multiple deficiencies detailed in a 16 page report.  A copy of the actual survey may be viewed online at:  http://www.floridahealthfinder.gov/LandingPages/NursingHomeGuide.aspx

Deficiencies at Pinebrook Center Raise Safety Concerns

The violations cited against Pinebrook Center involved the issues regarding the administration of medication, the storage of food and medicine, and the labeling of drugs.  On March 4, 2016, Pinebrook Center filed a Plan of Correction and stated that:  Pinebrook “provides this plan of correction without admitting or denying the validity or existence of the alleged deficiencies.  The Plan of Correction is prepared and executed solely because it is required by federal and state law.”  Really?  One might ask oneself:  Does this appear to be a nursing home corporation that sincerely cares about keeping its residents safe?  I suppose, perhaps, that the administrator at Pinebrook Center could not see the same things that were observed first-hand by AHCA investigators.

Pinebrook Center is part of a chain of nursing homes owned and managed by a publicly traded company known as Genesis HealthCare, Inc. based in Kennett Square, PA.  Genesis HealthCare, Inc. is one of, if not the current largest, nursing home operators in the United States.  According to its website, Genesis HealthCare, Inc. owns or manages more than 1,600 healthcare facilities in 46 states.

I have currently have several pending cases against Pinebrook Center.  If you are a former employee of Pinebrook Center who has knowledge about issues, concerns or problems at this facility and the company that owns and operates it, I would urge you to contact me at (941) 485-7600.
