Bay Village of Sarasota was sued in a lawsuit that the nursing home and its lawyers recently settled in 2024. The lawsuit alleged that the nursing home violated the nursing home resident’s right to receive adequate and appropriate healthcare and protective services, the right to be treated with the fullest measure of dignity and the right to be free from mental and physical abuse.
The lawsuit further alleged that the nursing home endangered residents “by failing to adjust staffing levels to meet the needs of the residents,” and that this contributed to the harm and damages suffered by the resident, including multiple bacterial wound infections. Additionally, the lawsuit sought damages for the resident’s wrongful death. This lawsuit followed two other nursing home negligence lawsuits that were filed against the nursing home in 2020 and 2019.
Inspections at Nursing Home Resulted in Deficiencies
Bay Village of Sarasota has received numerous deficiencies that are of concern. Of note, the facility was cited for failing to comply with requirements to ensure that residents are free from unnecessary psychotropic medications, failing to provide abuse, neglect and exploitation training, failing to adhere to each resident’s right to receive adequate and appropriate healthcare, and failing to provide treatment and services necessary to prevent and heal pressure ulcers.
