Goldton at Venice complaints were recently investigated and substantiated at this Nokomis assisted living facility. The Goldton at Venice is a 55-bed ALF located at 108 Bella Verde Boulevard, Nokomis, Florida 34275. The facility is affiliated with Atlas Senior Living, LLC out of Birmingham, Alabama.
The most recent inspection follows the initial licensure investigation that was completed by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration near the time the facility first opened its doors. At that time, two Class 3 deficiencies were cited against the facility in relation to training issues.
Complaint investigation focused on resident rights, elopement standards, medication assistance and risk management

Florida officials conducted an unannounced inspection at the ALF. Florida officials made observations, interviewed staff and reviewed records as part of their investigation. Inspectors determined that “the facility failed to honor resident rights to live in an environment where they can communicate with staff in a language they can understand” and failed to “honor a resident’s preference to have care provided by female staff.” Officials noted in their 32-page inspection report that a male caregiver “was observed speaking in a foreign language” and that staff “was unable to explain care being given in English to a resident.” Other instances evidencing a language barrier between staff and residents were noted. A family member of a resident “said she was concerned for his wellbeing because the staff member is unable to understand the needs of residents.” A Class 3 deficiency was cited.
Additionally, investigators cited The Goldton at Venice for failing to comply with resident care elopement standards. The facility’s policies were determined to be lacking proper documentation to “indicate that residents deemed elopement risks were to have identification on their persons that includes their name, and the facility’s name, address and telephone number. A Class 3 deficiency was cited. Finally, the State of Florida cited a Class 2 deficiency against the ALF for failing to comply with requirements related to the assistance with the self-administration of medication. Florida officials concluded that “the facility failed to follow physician orders when providing assistance with self-administration of medications.” The complete history of complaints, investigations and deficiencies for The Goldton at Venice may be reviewed on the Agency’s website located here: https://tinyurl.com/kjmb5fna
