
Sunset Lake Healthcare lawsuits alleging negligence have been filed in the Sarasota County Circuit Court. There are currently four lawsuits that are open and pending against the operating company of Sunset Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. This nursing home is a for-profit 120-bed facility located at 832 Sunset Lake Boulevard, Venice, Florida 34292.
As of this date, Sunset Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center remains on the Florida “Nursing Home Watch List.” Last year, this Venice nursing home was cited with a total of seventeen (17) deficiencies. A deficiency is the failure to comply with state or federal law applicable to nursing homes. Some of these deficiencies were related to abuse and neglect and arose from complaints made to Florida officials with the Agency for Health Care Administration. Sunset Lake Healthcare lawsuits Allege Negligence, Breach of Contract and Discrimination

The most recent lawsuit filed in February, 2025 against the operating company for Sunset Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center alleges claims for negligence, violation of resident rights and breach of fiduciary duty. In that case, the nursing home is alleged to have had inadequate staffing, failed to follow doctors order, and failed to supervise staff resulting in harm to a gentleman that included “significant injuries, including multiple debridements and surgeries, bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering” along with other damages.
In another recent lawsuit also filed in February, 2025, it is alleged that Sunset Lake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and its staff acted negligently and violated the resident rights of a female resident. The negligent acts and omissions committed by the nursing home’s staff are alleged to have resulted in her suffering a fractured tibia, pain and ultimately her death.
In addition to these nursing home negligence lawsuits, two other lawsuits are open and pending against the nursing home’s operating company. A nurse staffing agency has filed a breach of contract action alleging that the nursing home has failed to pay it $302,005.25 owed for temporary staff sent to fill in during staffing shortages. In yet another lawsuit filed last year, the nursing home is alleged to have fired in an employee who worked as the assistant director of nursing in retaliation when she reported to management that the Director of Nursing “was having his wife complete his work, giving her access to confidential patient information and medical forms” in violation of federal and state law.
All four of these lawsuits remain open at this time and were filed in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court in and for Sarasota County, Florida.
