Hawthorne Center lawsuits allege that this Sarasota nursing home’s corporate operator and staff were negligent in caring for residents. Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation and Healing of Sarasota is a for-profit 120-bed nursing home located at 5381 Desoto Road, Sarasota, Florida 34235. During the past couple of years, two Hawthorne Center for Rehab lawsuits alleging that this facility committed nursing home negligence have been filed, with the most recent lawsuit being filed just last month.
Currently, Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation and Healing of Sarasota remains on the Florida “Nursing Home Watch List.” This nursing home was cited last year with a total of eight (8) deficiencies by investigators with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. Hawthorne Center Lawsuits Allege Negligent Administration of Medication and Understaffing at this Sarasota Nursing Home
Two lawsuits brought against the operating company for Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation and Healing of Sarasota allege the nursing home was negligent in caring for residents. One of these acts of negligence involved a medication error.
In the first nursing home negligence lawsuit, the complaint alleges that a female resident “suffered preventable injury, including but not limited to a traumatic change in condition requiring emergent
hospitalization when Defendant’s staff negligently administered another individual’s medication” to her. This case was settled last year by the parties and is no longer open.
In the most recent nursing home negligence lawsuit filed against the facility’s operating company and corporate interests, it is alleged that understaffing at the nursing home and prioritization of profits over the safety and well being of residents resulted in a male resident suffering “bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life.” This case remains open and pending at this time. Both lawsuits were filed with and brought in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court in and for Sarasota County, Florida.
